Typewritten copy of a two diaries. One was kept from 26 Dec. 1847 to 13 March 1848 and is entitled: "A Journel of the Journy from Winter Quarters to St. Louice." The other diary was kept from 1855 to 1856 while Scott served on a mission for the Mormon Church in Ireland. Also included is a patriarchal blessing given to Scott by Joseph Smith (1771-1840), the first patriarch of the Mormon Church.

Joseph Smith Senior (1771-1840) was born in Massachusetts and married Lucy Mack in 1795. Among his eleven children was the founder of the LDS Church, Joseph Smith Junior. Being plagued by crop failures in Vermont, Smith moved his family to upstate New York where the birth of the Latter-day Saint movement began.
